DALLAS BIKE PLAN UPDATE
Dallas is at an exciting juncture in the development of its bicycle network. With miles of bike infrastructure already installed, Dallas has made substantial progress establishing a solid foundation for a bicycle network city-wide. The challenge for us now is how to build upon this existing framework and grow a comfortable, safe, and direct bicycle network that serves the different types of people in Dallas.
This effort is to update the City’s 2011 Dallas Bike Plan. A lot has changed since then. We want to build connected bicycle routes that help you safely get from your home to your work, school, parks, and other destinations. By Summer 2023, the City will have a new bicycle master plan that lays out future bicycle and roadway improvements needed for Dallas. To that end, this project will focus on achieving the following goals:
• Updating the Bicycle Network Map. This map recommends the desired location and type of bicycle improvements throughout the City. For this update, we want to focus on routes that are comfortable for a wide range of ages and abilities, connect to key destinations, are critical to having a connected network, and are feasibly based on traffic engineering standards and public input.
• Updating design standards for bicycle facilities.
• Creating a prioritized and phased implementation plan that identifies “quick win” priority bicycle facilities and priorities for future capital improvement programs.
This plan will impact all residents of Dallas, not just bicycling enthusiasts. So we need your input!
